Flow   State   Space

Welcome to Flow State Space.

Flow State was born with a desire to create a space in which people from all walks of life can arrive and feel safe to be vulnerable, process emotions and experiences and feel confident in knowing they will be heard and professionally guided by our highly qualified practitioners.

We celebrate authenticity, collaboration and community. We understand successful mental health care requires a combination of these 3 factors and aim to provide that through our services.

We believe in mental health care being a human right and understand the positive chain reaction in what it can look like for someone to seek support and ask for help.

We aim to provide a therapeutic environment in which duty of care and ethical standards are paramount as well as hand-picking a team of practitioners who treat from an interdisciplinary and intersectional framework with an understanding of how systems of oppression can
impact one’s mental health.

We thank you for being here.

All Flow State Space Clinicians aim to provide affirming care to all human beings, including people of colour, LGBTQIA+ folk, First Nations people, and people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds. All Clinicians are trauma-informed and practice from both an intersectional and interdisciplinary framework.

All Flow State Space Clinicians are regularly engaging in professional development, and professional supervision to ensure their evidence-based practices are in line with the latest research, ethics and code of conduct.

All Flow State Space Clinicians are also members of their respective therapeutic boards, which have strict regulatory guidelines in place.

FAQs

What to expect

Therapy aims to be an experience in which to safely explore the challenges you’re facing and work towards the life you want for yourself. Therapy is a collaborative process and sessions are tailored to suit your individual needs and goals.

We understand the steps required to make it this far and consider starting therapy are long and it can be a very daunting process. We aim to make it as easy and comfortable as possible.

The first 1-2 sessions are treated as intake and ensuring the right ‘fit’ between client and therapist. We believe that the number one factor in therapy working best is how you feel with your therapist. The first couple of sessions are used to determine this as well as your therapist engaging in a semi-structured interview covering a range of topics about your life, history and experiences as well as your goals for therapy. In this session we will also collaboratively develop a plan for therapy moving forward.

Prior to attending

Prior to your first session you will be emailed an ‘information and consent’ form. This form will outline details related to fees, confidentiality (including limits to confidentiality), and storage to or access of your information. This form will also request your contact information, credit card details used for payment, and have an option to include details for Medicare/private health insurance. We require this form to be completed and signed prior to your first session.

Private Health Insurance

Many private health funds offer a rebate for psychological services. You will need to check with your fund to ensure that they cover mental health consultations with a registered psychologist. Health fund rebates do not require a GP referral. You cannot claim from Medicare and your health fund for the same consultation.

Session Duration

Sessions are 50 minutes long.

Frequency of sessions will be determined following the initial assessment session, based on your individual therapy needs and goals. We encourage the first 3 sessions to be booked at weekly/ fortnightly intervals to ensure consistency of care.

The length of treatment is largely determined by your personal goals and the nature of your concerns. Your therapist will regularly check in with you to ensure your goals are on track and that we are addressing any barriers you might be facing.

Session Fees

Fee’s range from $120-$220

Please check individual therapist profiles in the ‘teams’ section for more details on fees and eligibility for Medicare rebates.

Cancellation Policy

The cancellation policy requires 48 hours’ notice to avoid a cancellation fee. 50% of the session fee will be charged for non-attendance or cancellation with less than 48 hours’ notice. This is to ensure that clients requiring cancellation/waitlist appointments have sufficient opportunity to book into these time slots.

Medicare Rebates

Medicare rebates are available for a range of specified psychological services. To be eligible to receive psychological services under Medicare, you must be referred by your GP or in some instances by a psychiatrist or paediatrician.

The GP or specialist will enquire about your mental health issues and will often administer a questionnaire to assess your levels of anxiety, stress, and depression. The GP or specialist will then write up a referral to the psychologist of your choice and will create a ‘mental health care plan’ which you will both be required to sign.

Typically an initial plan consists of sessions up to the amount of 6 or 4. This is then reviewed once the allocated sessions have been completed and a review referral is provided if sessions are to continue.

Currently, Medicare is offering up to 10 sessions per calendar year in total that can be accessed through referrals from your GP.
